What is a Skilled Worker Visa?

A UK Skilled Worker visa lets you come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an employer that holds a valid sponsor licence. It replaced the old Tier 2 (General) route and sits at the heart of the UK's points-based immigration system.

You can work for your sponsoring employer in the job on your Certificate of Sponsorship, do limited supplementary work, study alongside your job, and bring eligible dependants. You cannot access most public funds.

A Skilled Worker visa can be granted for up to five years at a time before it needs to be extended. The exact length is tied to the end date on your Certificate of Sponsorship.

You need a confirmed job offer from a licensed sponsor, a Certificate of Sponsorship, a role at the required skill level, a salary that meets the going rate and general threshold, and English at the required level.

Partners and children under 18 can usually join or accompany a Skilled Worker, provided you can show your relationship and adequate maintenance.

Many people already in the UK on another visa can switch into the Skilled Worker route from inside the country without having to leave, if they meet the requirements.

We confirm whether the standard Skilled Worker route, the Health and Care strand or another work route is the best fit before you commit to anything.

How it works

From First Call to Decision

A senior adviser reviews your job offer, salary, occupation code and immigration status, then tells you honestly whether you qualify before you spend anything. We also confirm the correct route for your circumstances.

We prepare your sponsorship, salary, maintenance and English language evidence together, closing the common gaps that lead to refusals. Everything is checked against the current points-based rules.

We complete and submit the online application for you. You pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge at this stage, then attend a short biometric appointment at a visa application centre.

The Home Office makes its decision, currently around three weeks for entry clearance applications. We advise you on the grant, extensions and the route to settlement after five years.

Get it right first time

Where Cases Go Wrong

Paying below the general threshold or the going rate for the occupation code is the single biggest reason Skilled Worker visas are refused. We check your salary, hours and job code against the current tables line by line.

Choosing a SOC code that does not match the real duties of the job causes refusals and problems at extension. We help your employer select the correct code and describe the role accurately.

A missing English test, an out-of-date Certificate of Sponsorship or weak maintenance evidence cause avoidable delays and refusals. We work from a checklist tailored to your case so nothing is left out.
